We are pleased to introduce Youth Rescue Squad (YRS), a European initiative that empowers young people with the knowledge, practical skills and confidence needed to better understand and respond to climate challenges. With a particular focus on young people aged 15–29, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, the project aims to strengthen youth resilience and encourage young people to take an active role in building more climate-resilient communities.
Who Is Youth Rescue Squad For?
- Young people aged 15–29, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, who want to develop practical skills for climate preparedness and response
- Youth workers and mentors, who will gain tools and methodologies to support young people in developing climate resilience skills
- Community stakeholders, including local authorities, NGOs, policymakers and environmental organisations, who can contribute to local climate resilience efforts and dialogue with young people
- Climate experts and researchers, who will contribute knowledge and expertise to support the quality and relevance of project resources
Building Knowledge, Skills and Resilience
Youth Rescue Squad combines digital learning, mentoring, hands-on training and community engagement. Young people will have access to an interactive e-course covering climate change consequences, extreme weather patterns, reliable and misleading climate information, and digital tools for climate alerts and preparedness.
The project will also train youth workers and mentors through a dedicated Mentor Training Workshop, preparing them to support young people during Resilience-Building Camps.
From Learning to Local Action; Connecting Young People Across Europe
Youth Rescue Squad will create opportunities for young people and stakeholders to learn from experiences beyond their local communities. A study visit to a flood-affected municipality in Spain will allow youth participants to explore climate preparedness, response and restoration efforts together with local representatives.
A dedicated Resilient Net platform will further support knowledge-sharing and collaboration, providing a space to exchange resources, information and good practices.
Through its combination of education, practical experience, local engagement and European cooperation, Youth Rescue Squad aims to strengthen young people’s capacity to understand climate risks, respond to climate challenges and contribute to resilience-building in their communities.
